  As I sit here listening to the jazz flute in the song that United plays on repeat for their clients on hold, I begin to feel my eye twitch as I realize that I'm accidentally whistling along. It makes me think, "Maybe there's something better out there. Maybe there's an insurance company whose customer service department is both online AND on the phone. Maybe they answer the phone in under 30 minuted and MAYBE that company doesn't play the same jazz flute song incessantly as their beloved customers wait for a representative".
  
  The real issue:
  Called in December to get health insurance to avoid Affordable Care Act fine. Finished application. Tried getting in contact countless times to find out if my application was approved since I noticed they had deducted a premium from my bank account, but I hadn't been notified via email or mail. After being on hold for an hour and being transferred multiple times, to different customer support individuals unable to find any trace of me in the system, I was informed that I was not signed up for major health insurance but was signed up for their "fixed indemnity plan". United's fixed indemnity plan does not fall under the stipulations of the Affordable Care Act, so now I will have to pay the fine I was trying to avoid.
  
  After customer support spoke with a supervisor, I was told that they would need to review my files and call me back. A week later- you can guess whether that's happened or not. There's no email address or chat for customer support, so I started all over again on the phone with the jazz flute solo. What I finally found out was that United does not even offer major health insurance in Texas. I was mislead. The whole experience was... a pointless waste of time.
  
  Silver lining: I'm going to sign up for insurance through a company that values their customers a bit more. Good luck to whoever is reading this. I'm guessing you've had a bad experience too or you wouldn't even be here.
